STAWI x Ocean Sole Green, Yellow-Blue Bracelet.

Description

We have partnered with Ocean Sole to create these colorful fun bands that come in an array of color ways and themes which could also be custom ordered. Ocean Sole is known for their vibrant carvings crafted from discarded flip-flop waste which they collect around Kenya’s beaches and cities. They are greatly championed for their efforts and achievements in undertaking environmental sanitation challenges. Previously the cut off scrap foam from the carving process would primarily be used in the creation of mattresses for the underprivileged peoples living in refuge camps as well as the KSPCA shelter.

The silver utilised in our projects has been recycled. Meaning, we acquire disfigured and unwanted pre-existing jewellery. Which we then smelt and refine to recquired purity of 925 before crafting. The clear tube used is a food grade vinyl collected thanks to the help of a local garbage collection company that collects waste within Nairobi’s streets, industries as well as residential areas. Polyurethane and Polyvinyl are both non-biodegradable plastics which find way into waterways and landfills with the latter taking an average of 450 years for disintegration and weathering to occur. Hence, using such decay proof material in our jewellery is a great upcycling practice because jewellery pieces are know to last for generations if well taken care of. Our goal with this project is to reduce waste even closer to net zero.
